SPRINGBOK TOUR

Compilation Of Records

A comprehensive record of the recent New Zealand tour by the Springboks has been compiled by the Internal Affairs Department. This record, which is to be forwarded to South Africa with the Government’s compliments, consists of three volumes of newspaper clippings and photographs of the tour, and makes a unique record of an interesting tour. The volumes are bound in green and gold (the South African colours), and the record commences with the trial games held in New Zealand by the New Zealand Rugby Union. It covers all the matches that were played, and the many social and other events in which the visitors participated, the farewell, and then follows newspaper comment on the tour and the victory of the Springboks. Each volume bears the following inscription:—“Presented to the South African Rugby Board by the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage) On behalf of the Government of New Zealand as a tribute to a team great in both skill and sportsmanship,” and bears the Prime Minister’s signature, with the date, 19/1/38.
