NEW TRADE PACT
Agreement In AngloIrish Talks BREAKING BARRIERS Some Understanding On Defence-Problem By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. (Received January 19, 8.30 p.m.) London, January 19. The Anglodrish talks resulted >n agreement in principle on a new trade pact, which, it is hoped, will break down most of the barriers separating the two countries, says the “Telegraph’s” political correspondent. They, also resulted in a considerable measure of understanding regarding defence.
Au earlier message stated: The conference adjourned and will resume at noon on Wednesday. The continuance of the discussions encourages the hope of further progress. ' The Ministers concerned with the questions of trade an'd agriculture are to meet at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. Messrs. Lernass, McEntee, and Ryan left Downing Street at 4.30 p.m., and Mr. de Valera remained in conversation with Mr. Chamberlain and Mr. MacDonald. The Eire delegates will leave for home after the adjournment of the conference on Wednesday. The conference will be resinned at a later 'date after further expert examination of the subjects under discussion. '■ A British official wireless message states: As was to be expected, tlffi partition issue was« not raised again in the Anglo-Irish conversations, the position of the two sides having been made completely clear yesterday. It is understood that plans have already been made for further examination' by officials of the two Governments of the question of the defence force and trade. These exchanges are bound to occupy a few weeks, and it is obvious that if there is to be a possibility of a comprehensive trade agreement between Britain and Eire there is an immense amount of detailed study and preparation to be done. The talks were again of a most friendly and frank nature.
