“DANGER TO PLAYERS”
Wickets At Hutt Park The Hutt Park cricket pitches were a danger to players, said Mr. W. 11. Wilson at last night's meeting of the Hutt Park Committee. Players had complained to him that the. wickets were powdery and holey and the balls rose high. One player was hit in the mouth by a ball and had to have three stitches inserted. The secretary, Mr. 11. Firth, said the wickets had been prepared really for picnic cricket, but the Hutt Valley Cricket Association looked for first-class pitches. It had been estimated that it would cost £5O a piece to prepare new wickets. The committee received 11/- a Saturday from the association for each -wicket. Teams playing friendly or picnic matches paid 15/-. ■ ■ • The association was growing rapidly, and in a year or two would be prepared to pay a good price for good wickets, said Mr. Wilson. .. The chairman, Mr. E. T. E. Hogg, said the question of what to do with the wickets could be dealt, with at the appropi’info time when the estimates were being considered.
