INJURED JOCKEYS
Cook’s Condition Slightly Improved
(Received January 17, 10.50 p.m.) Sydney, January 17.
The jockey Keith Cook was slightly improved to-day. McDonald and Munro are making good progress. Zensky’s two wrists are broken. At the Canterbury Park races, three horses fell in the Campsie Handicap. Keith Cook, one of the leading jockeys, was sent to hospital in a critical condition. Two others, including D. Munro, were slightly injured.
In the first division of the Maiden Welter, Venturesome was killed outright, and Aehray broke a foreleg and had to be destroyed. A third horse fell, but was uninjured in a sensational smash. The jockeys G. McDonald and H. Zensky were injured and sent to hospital. DEATH OF PAPWORTH ‘ (Received January 17, 10.50 p.m.) Sydney, January 17. The coroner held an inquiry into the death of Maxwell Papworth, apprentice jockey, killed in a racing smash at Randwick on December 18. A verdict was returned of accidental death not caused by rough riding or crowding.
