Man Fined For Giving Warning

After hearing evidence to-day. Mr. G. N. Morris, S.M., convicted Percy William Everett, who was charged that on October' 10, 1037, in order to enable Charles Thomas Arthur Clark to avoid detection, he gave Clark, a person in a common gaming-house, warning of (lie approach of a constable. At the last sitting of the court last year the magistrate gave a decision regarding certain points raised by Everett’s counsel, Mr, R. K. Trimmer. At the first hearing Mr. Trimmer set up that the police had not established a prima facie case, but the magistrate considered that on the evidence as a whole a prima facie case had been established. The case was then adjourned to enable Everett to give evidence. The defendant was examined at length to-day. The magistrate said he was certain that Everett did not know be was committing an offence when he rang Clark,! but said he must convict. He fined Everett £5/1/-, with costs 10/-. Security for appeal was fixed at £lO 10/-.
