OBITUARY
Sister M. A. Dysart
The death has occurred at Napier of Sister Jlargaret Ann Dysart, formerly matron of Dr. T. JI. Gilray’s private hospital, says a “Dominion” Special Service message. Sister Dysart suffered from ill-health for several years, this being accentuated by her experiences in the earthquake of 1931. With her parents, Sister Dysart came to New - Zealand from County Derry, Ireland, before she was 20 years of age. She was trained for nursing at the Napier Public Hospital and then for a time was surgical nurse to Dr. Gilray in Dr. W. W. Jloore’s hospital on Jlarine Parade. '
When Dr. Gilray established his private hospital in Tennyson Street Sister Dysart became matron of the institution, rendering valuable service in that capacity for a period of about eight years. Despite her own illhealth she worked continuously during the trying period which followed the 1931 earthquake, performing splendid work among the sick and injured. She gave up active nursing shortly after the earthquake and commenced secretarial work for Dr. Gilray. Sister Dysart is survived by her mother, who resides at Sherenden, and by several brothers and sisters. Two brothers, Messrs. W. J. and T. M. Dysart, are farming at Sherenden, and a third, Mr. A. Dysart, is the principal of the Hastings firm of Ross, Dysart and McLean. Two other brothers reside at Whakatane and Rotorua. Her sisters are Mrs. Mackie, Lower Hutt, Mrs. Johnson, whose husband manages the Hunter estate at Porangahau, and Mrs. Charles Chapman, Greatford.
