GOOD PUBLICITY
Dominion Deep-Sea Fishing VISITOR FROM MANILA Evidence of the value of the publicity given the deep-sea fishing waters in New Zealand by the American author Zane Grey was provided by Mr. J. L Meyers, Manila, who arrived at Auckland in the Wanganella on Friday for a month’s fishing near Tauranga. Mr. Meyers, who is accompanied by his wife said the New Zealand deep-sea fishing grounds had been given splendid publicity by Zane Grey, and he was anxious to try some fishing in the Dominion. , , Mr. Meyers said there was good deepsea fishing near Manila of the variety found in New Zealand, but with about 14 000 000 Filipinos there was keen competition. The Philippines, which ha'd been promised independence b.V 1946, were experiencing a period of prosperity, and industry was running smoothly in spite of the war in the Far East. There were heavy exports of sugar gold, tobacco, copra, and hemp. The gold industry was most prosperous, several new hard rock mills having been opened in recent months. “Besides doing some fishing we want to see your country while we are here,” said Mr. Meyers. “We will remain in the Dominion until February 12 when we will return to Australia for the Sydney celebrations.”
