Giles won all three senior titles without being seriously extended, and was very nearly back to the loriii tuat placed him among the first eight in the lime trials al the Olympic Games last year. R. .T. Taylor, Anciilaiid, bolder of the b.pnut titles, was injured in training, mid did not start. K. Clmer, Wellington, and C. R. Gouder, Auckland, were the best of tlie others, but were unable to match Giles when Hie pace was un. Competition was keen lor junior honours. T. Lindley (Canterbury) beat R. E. Clark (Auckland) by inches tn a flying finish to the five miles. H. K. Baldwin (Auckland) was clearly supermini the half-mile. Wellington won the teams championship from Auckland as the result of a tine ride by L'lmer. Details:—

1000 Metres Sprint. — Semi-finals— First heat: A. Pennington (Wellington) beat L. Sowerby (Auckland). Time lor the last furlong 13 3-u. Second heat: GR. Giles (Canterbury) beat C. R. Gouder (Auckland). Time. 13 2-5. Final: Giles won the first two out of three matches with Pennington, obviating the iiecesuity of running a third. Tile winner’s times were 13 2-5 and 13 1-5. Giles, in an earlier heal, recorded 13. In the race for third place Gooder easily beat Sowerby. Time, 13 2-5. Ten Allies, Paced. —G. R. Giles (Canterbury). 1; IL L'lmer (Wellington), 2; Al. P. Byrnes (Auckland), 3. Time 21.58. Won easily by three lengths, half a length between second and third.

Time. 10.57. Won by inches in a Hying finish. The decision was at first, wrongly given to Clark, but later corrected. In the team championship final Wellington beat Auckland by 1 3-ssee. It was officially announced after the meeting that Giles had been included in the provisional selection for the Empire Games team. The final selection will be announced by the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Ass’ociation shortly
