Musketry Course At

Trentham

At Trentharu on .Saturday the clubs affiliated to the AVellington Rifle Association fired the annual classification course (musketry). AVeather conditions were excellent, with bright sunshine and only a slight right wind. Time did not permit changing targets and retiring from 200 yards to 500 yard.-. The final practice, which should have been fired upon six-foot targets from the latter distance, was accordingly fired from 300 yards upon four-foot targets. The practices fired were: (a) Grouping, 100 vards, 5 rounds, possible score 25; (b) application, 200 y.drds, 5 rounds, possible score 25; (c) snap, 200 yards. 5 rounds, possible score 15; (d) rapid, 200 yards. 10 rounds, possible score 50; and (e) application, 300 yards, 5 rounds, possible score 25. Total possible score 140. The first practice (grouping) did not count for classification purposes. In the practices fired at 200 and 300 yards (total possible 115 points), each man who gained SO points or over earned his marksmanship. while n seore of not less than 55 represented ordinary qualification. By arrangement between tlie Defence Department and the National Rifle Association'. single-arm slings and aperturesights (the latter not adjustable for windage) were for the first time allowed to be used in a musketry shoqt, and most of the riflemen availed themselves of this concession.

Mr. G. G. Kcllv acted as range officer, while Mr. T. AlcGill took charge of the trench.
