CHRISTMAS CHEER
Y.W.C.A. Hold Party And
Guest Tea
The spirit of Christmas has been much in evidence in the Young Women’s Christian Association during the last week or two, and many happy little gatherings have been held. A group of 30 children were entertained by the Haeremai Club in the Blue Triangle Hall. After partaking of a party tea, games were played and the curtains were drawn back to reveal a well-decorated Christmas tree, from which Santa Claus distributed gifts and balloons to the little guests.
Ou Saturday evening a Christinas tea was held in the cafeteria, when about 40 guests were present, consisting of women and girls who use the lounge, and a number of guests staying in the hostel. Mrs. Robert Gardner, president of the Y.W.C.A., presided at the tea. and after cutting rhe beautiful cake which she had donated, welcomed the guests and urged all present to let the spirit of peace and Jove permeate their daily lives. “For Shes a Jolly Good Fellow” was sung in honour of Mrs. Gardner, and the guests then adjourned to the lounge, and indulged in games and singing for an hour or two. Father Christmas appeared and distributed small gifts to all present. Carols were sung and a very happy evening was brought to a close with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
Navy League Party
More than 70 children were present at the very cheerful Christmas party given on Saturday afternoon by the ladies’ auxiliary of the Wellington branch of the Navy League, assisted by the junior branch committee. The guests were the wives and children of ex-Royal Naval Men’s Association members, many mothers and fathers being present with the children. The Missions to Seamen hall was gay with Christmas decorations. Charlie the Clown kept everyone amused until tea-time and delighted the children with his Punch and Judy show. After tea Father Christmas arrived and presents, balloons and squeakers from the Christmas tree were given to all the children.
The party closed with hearty thanas to the auxiliary from the president of the ex-Royal Naval Men’s Association, and the singing of the National Anthem.
Kindergarten Party
A delightful Christmas party was held at the Thompson Street Kindergarten on Friday afternoon when Miss Kathleen Farquhar, director of the kindergarten, welcomed parents and friends of the children. The room was gaily decorated with orange and green streamers and balloons, and vases of iceland poppies, marigolds, and nasturtiums. In one corner was a brightly decorated Christmas tree which was heavily laden with gifts for the children, while in another corner was a table already set out for the children’s tea. After games and singing the children presented their parents with gifts which they had maue themselves during the term. The children then had afternoon tea and tea for the parents and visitors was also provided.
