Hutt Road Traffic
(From "The Dominion,” December 23, 1912.) The tallies of traffic passing over the Hutt Road taken by the Railways Department show that the amount of traffic on the road is astonishinly large. The analysis of the tally taken for 21 davs shows the traffic to or from the ten districts that use the road, and therefore are to be charged with the cost of it, to be as follows One-horse drays, 1275; two-horse drays, 133; lorries and other heavy vehicles, 4401; light vehicles, G 352; motor-cars, 2662; motor-bicycles, 28.18; bicycles, 7215; cnttle, 1328; sheep, 327 ; a total of 26,505. This tally, which takes no account of ueilestrians, makes it appear that there Is an average traffic of about 1264 items per day on the 'road. [A recent tally showed that an average of nearly 6000 vehicles a day used the Hutt Road.] * » *
The British Isles tennis team met the pick of New Zealand players at Auckland yesterday before an attendance of about IOOb people. Four singles and two doubles events were played, all of which were won by the visitors. Chief interest was centred in the singles between C., P. Dixon, the English captain, and Ollivier. the New Zealand champion.
