Regatta Crews Practice

No club or inter-club rowing races were held in Wellington on Saturday, although both city clubs put in a good afternoon’s work. The tight southerly wind was sufficient to put a stop to any rowin- on the Koro Koro course, so the 1 etone Rowing Club held a practice on the Hutt River for its fours and pairs who will compete in the Picton regatta on New Year’s Day. Seven crews in all were on the water. . The Star Boatiiig Club had all its eight crews who will compete at Picton at practice, and in addition a number of new members tried out sliding seats for the first time. A full programme of training was also carried out by AVellington. Rowing Club members, its regatta crews putting in a solid afternoon’s work. INTER-COLLEGE RACES Wanganui Win Senior Event Bv Telegraph—Press Association.’ Christchurch, December IS. A long series of defeats was ended yesterday when, for the fiivt time since 1929, AVanganui Collegiate School beat Christs College in their annual rowing race. AA anganui got away to an early lead and, though strongly challenged by Christs College over the last half-mile, won by a length.

The crews in the main race were:--AVanganui: R. Holmden (str.), AV. J. H.vslop (3). G. L. Jones (2). R. G. Bannister (bow), T. AV. Blennerhassett (cox). Christ’s College: IL T. Thompson (str.) J. B. Fisher (3), N. Tutaki (2). J. D. Aitken (bow), R. AV. Clark-Hall (cox). The race was over i’ mile course. Christ’s College won the race between the second crew« by two lengths. The crew» in this race were:-— Wanganui: J. I. Mackie (str.). J. S. Bidwell (s.). I. H. Smith (2), B. H. Bunnv (bow), T. AV. (cox). ‘Christ’* College: W. N. Andrews (s’tr.), R. E. Spooner (3), F. C. Chennells (2), E. S. Hamilton (bow), R. K. Hughes (cox). The race was rowed over a short course of just over half a mile.
