Princess Elizabeth Passes Her Tenderfoot Test
She Is Joining The Kingfisher Patrol
At a special Girl Guide enrolment which will be held in a few weeks’ time at Buckingham Palace, Princess Elizabeth will become a member of the Kingfisher Patrol, while Princess Margaret will join the Leprechaun Lix.
r FIIE Princesses will be enrolled by
their aunt, the Princess Royal, president of the Girl Guides’ Association, who will also enrol the other members of the Buckingham Palace Company and Brownie Pad
Princess Elizabeth and her friends are very eagerly looking forward to being Guides. They have passed their Tenderfoot test, which, as you know, consists of knowing the Guide law and promise, tbu Guide salute, which must be performed in a special way. ’They must be familiar with certain tracking signs, the composition of the
Union Jack, and be able to tie useful knots. During the winter months the company will meet in the Palace, where they will have fun doing energetic tilings such as drill, games and Scottish country dancing. Princess Elizabeth is excited at the idea of doing the tracking, woodcraft, fire-lighting and other jolly out-of-door activities in the Palace grounds, when the weather becomes warmer. At the moment the company, like most others in the country, is busy with the Christmas Stocking Trail. This is an “extra” good turn, for which Guides make and collect toys, etc., and clothes for families in distressed areas, who might otherwise have no Christmas presents.
