REFUSED TO GIVE NAME
Cyclist On Footpath People had to get off the footpath to make way for defendant, who, when approached by 'him, refused to give his name, said Inspector C. E. Yarnell to Mr. H. P Lawry, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court. Upper Hutt, yesterday in the case of John Alfred Knocks, who was fined 30/-. with costs 10/-, for cycling on the footpath in three streets. Inspector Yarnell said he had to get police assistance to ascertain Knocks's name. Dangerous Driving. Erie Maguire Henderson, Lower Hutt, was fined £3, with costs £l/19/-, for driving in a manner dangerous to the public. The prosecution, which was conducted l>y Constable Stewart, arose from a collision between Ileuderson’s ear and one driven by John Thomas Benge, of Upper Hutt, at Maoribank on November 6. Mr. Dawry said that Henderson had failed to observe the prospective movements of Benges ear. which was ahead. From the lengtn of his car's skid marks Henderson wns either not paying sufficient attention or was going at a greater speed than lie admitted. , „ , Damaged Pole. David Auld was fined £l, with costs 10/-. for damaging a telegraph pole >v colliding with it. It was (-.-tilted that the amount of the damage. £2l, had already been met by insurance.
Speeding Motorists. Claude Leonard Baigent and Patrick McCaslian. Miramar, were each fined 30/-. with costs 10/-, for exceeding .the speed limit. For a similar offence, Donald Kennedy Mncdoniihl. Newtown, was fined £2/10/-, witli costs 10/-.
Met an Inspector. Laurence Cottingham Jones, who in passing two other ears between which he was travelling in the borough met Inspector C. A. J. Peterson and Constable Stewart in a car approaching, was lined £l, with costs 10/-, for driving in a manner which might have been dangerous. Constable Stewart prosecuted in the police eases and Inspector Peterson in those brought by the Transport Department.
Dance for Pupils. A dance was held in the Assembly Hall at the Hutt, Valley High School on AViylnesday evening in honour of the pupils who lire leaving school this year. There was a large attendance. Bowls of polyanthus roses and greenery were used in decoration on the stage. Mr. C. E. Aim aeled as master of ceremonies. Supper wa< served in one of the classrooms.
