LATE MR. T. W. BOON

Harbour Board Tribute

Tributes to the memory of the late Mr. T. W. Boon, traffic manager and chief wharfinger for the Wellington Harbour Board, were paid at a meeting of the board last night. The chairman, Mr. D. J. McGowan, said that Mr. Boon had had 42 yeavs’ service on the Wellington wharves. Starting as a labourer in 1899, he rose to the position of first assistant wharfinger in 1923, and in 1936 was appointed traffic manager and chief wharfinger. The whole of his service was characterised by loyalty to the board. His complete knowledge of departmental affairs, coupled with his wide experience in wharf matters, was fully recognised by all, and his keen appreciation of duty and courteous manner in dealing with all with whom he came in contact would be very much missed not only by the shipping and commercial interests, but also by the travelling public. Mr. W. H. Price said that Mr. Boon had started on the lowest rung of the ladder and had climbed to the highest position attainable in his department. He was a very loyal and efficient officer and his passing was a deep loss to the community.

Mr. 0. M. Turrell said that Mr. Boon was a man of sterling character, aud at all times had done his best for both his employers and the public.
