MERGER OPPOSED
Feilding Fire Board Dominion Special Service. Feilding, December 15. Opposition to the ajiplication of the amalgamation of local bodies’ proposals to the board was expressed at the meeting of the Feilding Fire Board yesterday, and a motion to this effect was carried unanimously. The motion read: “That this board expresses its opposition to any form of amalgamation which would result in a change in the existing form of control as, in tlie opinion of this board, this could not be done without impairing the efficiency of the brigade, and that the chairman be appointed to represent the board, if necessary, to give evidence before the special Parliamentary committee.” In moving the resolution, Mr. V. M. Edgar, representing the fire underwriters, said the board did not desire that fire hoards should be linked up and controlled by one central body. Feilding had the smallest expenditure of any board in the Dominion, and for many years had displayed wonderful efficiency. Little, if any, benefits could be gained by any change in the administration.
The secretary, Ms. C. H. Tate, pointed out that he had advised the Parliamentary committee that the Feilding board desired to give evidence on the subject.
