Westfield

By Telegraph—Presi Association.

Auckland, December 15.

Beef values firmed at late rates at Westfield to-da- lower grade stock being dearer. In many instances quality was good in the ox section, but again inferior and patchy among the cows. Restricted selection produced stronger competition. Extra choice ox realised 39/a 1001 b., choice and prime, 33/- to 38/-; unfinished, 25/- to 35/-; prime cow and heifer beef, 30/- to 37/-; unfinished, 22/to 32/-. Extra heavy steers made £l2 15/. to £l4; heavy, £l2/12/6 to £l4; medium, £ll/10/- to £l2/15/-; light, £lO 7/6 to £ll/12/6; unfinished, £7/10/- to £lO/5/-; extra heavy cows and heifers, £9 to £lO/17/6; heavy, £7/10/- to £3 15/-; medium, £6/15/- to £7/10/-; light, £5 to £6/10/-; unfinished, £3 to £4/15/-.

Prime quality sheep were offered in large numbers, some ot the choicest lines available for some time being sold at firm rates. Sheep lacking finish were inclined to be easier in price. Extra heavy wethers brought 29/- to 30/6; heavy, 27/6 to 28/6 ; medium, 26/- to 27/-; light, 24/- to 25/9; unfinished, 18/- to 23/6; extra heavy ewes, 20/- to 23/-; he_ayy, 18/- to 19/6; medium, 16/6 to 17/9; light, 14/9 to 16/6; unfinished, 5/- to 15/-. Lambs were in keen demand for Christmas markets and realised fully firm values on recent schedules. Prime grades ranged 21/- to 27/9; smaller and unfinished, 10/- to 20/6. The full supply of calves lacked quality and bidding was very slack. Prices declined about 5/- a head, making a decrease of more than 8/- in two weeks. The demand for calves has deteriorated unaccountably. Runners realised £2 10/- to £6/12/6; heavy vealers, £4 to £5/5/-; medium, £3 to £4/2/-; light, £2 6/. to £3/6/-; smaller, £l/10/- to £2/8/-; rough, 10/- to 24/-; bobby, 5/- to 14/-. A large proportion of prime baconers was included in the good yarding of pigs. There was no improvement in bacon values but the keen demand for porkers resulted in a general increase of 1/- a head. Stores sold readily. Choppers brought £2 to £4/9/-; heavy baconers, £3/14/- to £4/1/-; medium. £3/8/- to £3 12/-; light. £3/1/- to £3/6/-; heavy porkers, £2/12/- to £3; medium. £2/5/- to £2/12/-; light, £l/19/- to £2/6/-; unfinished, £l/9/- to £l/17/-: stores, 27/to 35/-; slips, 20/- to 29/-; weaners, 10/to 22/-. Baconers averaged 6id. a lb., and porkers 61dWanganui Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, December 15. Heavyweight cows declined up to £2 a head, while prime heavy ewes declined 2/- to 3/6 a head. Fat pigs were also decidedly easier. No store sheep were offered.
