MONTAGUE AS GOLFER

Babe Ruth Explodes Legend Of Invincibility

(Received December 3, 9 p.m.)

New York, December 2.

The baseball player, Babe Ruth, seems to have exploded the legend of John Montague’s golf invincibility by the reluctant admission that he has beaten Montague three or four times recently. Ruth said he defeated Montague 5 up on one occasion. A message from New York on November 14 stated that the question whether John Montague was the world’s greatest golfer remained unanswered after the first public charity match, in which the other participants were Mrs. Annenberg, Babe Ruth, and Babe Didrikson. The match was abandoned at the ninth hole, owing to the unruly gallery of 12,000, through an'd round which the players vainly endeavoured to play their shots.
