Foreign Royalties
Bulgarian And Danish Visitors To London
London, November 12. has an imposing list of visiting foreign royalties just now. Queen .Joanna of Bulgaria and her sister, Princess -Maria of Savoy, the Crown Princess of Denmark (better known as Princess Ingrid of Sweden), Princess Alessandro Torlonin, daughter of ex-King Alfonso of Spain and Princess Helen of Rumania all help to add a note of dignity and excitement to our night life. At a party arranged on I lie spur of the moment in honour of the two royal sisters. Queen .Joanna looked regal and lovely in blue velvet witli a diamond brooch and a long sable wrap. At an after-the-theatre supper party in a West End hotel she wore a lacetrimmed gown of dark brown, and her only jewels were large earrings of an old-world pattern. Princess Maria at this party wore white lace, with a short matching coatee, and chose diamond clips to wear in her dark hair, a fashion followed by Contessa Graudi, wife of the Italian Ambassador, who was in the same party.
One of the things which Queen Joanna lias most enjoyed about her visit is the English tea-hour, I am told. She has been entertained to tea by various people, including Queen Mary, and has made a collection of typical tea-time recipes such as crumpets, muffins and parkins. She hopes to introduce the English tea into the court life of Sofia on her return, and will probably include an electric toaster among her purchases in London, as such things are apparently unknown in the Balkans.
