Surf Life-Saving Contest At Island Bay
NORDERN CUP REGATTA The principal event on to-day's outdoor programme will be the rowing regatta for the Nordern Gup, in which crews from the Petone, Star, and Wellington clubs will compete. The regatta will be held on the Oriental Bay course, but if a northerly wind is blowing the Koro Koro course will be used. The first race will start at 1.45 p.m. Cricket. The Wellington Cricket Association will proceed with its grade championship fixtures to-day, when the fourth series will be commenced. The following senior games will be started: —Hutt v. University, at Hutt; Karori v. Wellington, at Karori; Kilbirnie v. Midland, at Kilbirnie; Old Boys v. Institute, at Basin Reserve No. 1 (first day). Mercantile League. The Wellington Mercantile Cricket League will continue its grade championship competitions this afternoon, when the following A grade matches will be decided: —Gasco v. Hannahs. Athletic 2; Woolworths v. Amalgamated Bricks. Kelburn 3; Celtic v. Customs Agents, Newtown 7; Taxes v. Prestige, Athletic 1; Taubmans v. Working Men’s Club. Kilbirnie 5. Hutt Valley Association. The second of the Wellington athletic sub-committee's inter-club graded scratch meetings will be held at Hataitai Park this afternoon. A .100 yards event and a 90 yards women’s hurdles race have been added to the programme.. The meeting will open with the first parade of the season for the Kitto Shield. Bowls.
