NEED FOR AERODROME
Levin Council Would Consider New Scheme TARARUA ROAD PROPOSAL NOT FAVOURED Dominion Special Service. Levin, December 3. The need for an aerodrome at Levin was emphasised at a meeting of the Manawatu and Middle Districts Aero Club at Palmerston North, when it was pointed out that though many young men of this district desired to learn to fly no plane could be brought here until j landing ground was available. Mr. J. C. Milnes, who was present at the meeting, reported that the authorities were not satisfied with the Tararua Road location, and in an interview with “The Dominion” he said a suitable ground had been found on the western side of Lake Horowhenua. The mayor, Mr. P. W. Goldsmith, later told "The Dominion” that the only
objection the authorities had to the Tararua Roail site was that the property was not freehold, the council having secured tenure of it for ten years. No assistance had been offered by the Government and the matter had lapsed. While Levin had many advantages for an emergency landing ground, it would be classed as a third or fourth-class aerodrome. said Mr. Goldsmith. Though previous endeavours had not proved successful he was sure the council would be prepared to consider any now proposal for an aerodrome.
