HOT AND DRY MONTH
Abnormal Weather At Palmerston North Palmerston North, December 3. Palmerston North this year experienced the hottest November for some years, and the driest for the past. 30 years, according to the records kept by Mr. E. J. Worry, of the Palmerston North Boys’ High School.
On November 29 the thermometer soared to Sideg. in the shade, six degrees more than the extreme maximum for the same month last year, and the mean maximum in th<; shade was 69.7 deg„ compared with G6.4deg. In fact, in all maximum readings the temperatures showed a surprising rise as compared with November last year. The mean air temperature for the month was three degrees above normal.
The rainfall, too, was abnormally low. The total of 1.43 inches was less than one-quarter of that for November last year and loss than one-half of the normal rainfall for November for tho past 30 years. The rainfall this year up to tho end of November has been 32.97 in.. nearly Gin. below normal and more than Sin. below the fall for the corresponding period of last year. Rain fell on 10 days, and the greatest -fall was of .62in. on November 24.
Barometer readings were also high. The average for the month was 29.94 in., the highest was 30.24 in„ and the lowest 29.29 in.
Eight to gentle breezes were experienced on 19 days, moderate to fresh breezes on nine days, and strong winds on only two days. Most of the breezes were from the north-west.
