This is the lust I,hue in the history of banking of any country that commercial bank deposits have exceeded £500,000,000. The influx of foreign capital, withdrawn from the United States of America, after the recent scare, is held to be. without doubt, a contributory factor. The Midland Bank is one of the "Big Five” London banks', the others being Barclays, Lloyds, National Provincial and Westminster. At June o 0 last total deposits o£ the five banks aggregated £2,007,622,537. The advances and dis-, counts at the same date totalled £1,095,028,305.
