WELLINGTON’S CLAIMS
Use Of Harbour As Air Service Terminal
CANTERBURY SU PPORT
By Telegraph—Press Association.
Christchurch, December 3.
Support was accorded by the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce at last evening’s meeting to the efforts of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce to ensure that Wellington shall be the New Zealand terminus of the proposed trans-Tasman air service, and shall be included in tlie itinerary of the new C. and A. Line 22,000-ton ships. A report submitted by the transport committee stated that the first, essential for an air terminal was the safety and comfort of passengers, and any terminal in any centre should comply with these requirements. “From a national point of view,” stated the report, “Wellington’s central position gives it sound claim to consideration in the interests of the whole population of the Dominion, By reason of its position Wellington would suit the South Island admirably as an air terminal.”
