Coming-Of-Age Celebrations At Eastbourne About 100 guests were present at tho Masonic Hall, Eastbourne, at a party given by Mr. aud Mrs. E. N. Battersby, to celebrate the coming-of-age of their daughter Dorothy. The hall was decorated with gaily-coloured balloons, garlands aud streamers, and items were given by Mrs. IV. Brownlee and Miss E. An enjoyable evening was spent recently at the home of Mrs. C. AVoo'd, Karori, when about 40 members of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union bade farewell to Mrs. Wood, who will leave shortly on a trip to England. Although caught unawares, Mrs. Wood soon made everyone welcome.
A pianoforte solo by Mrs. Price, a recitation by Mrs. Stinson, and songs, by Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Andrew were enjoyed. Mrs. Mowlem le'd community singing. A competition was won by Mrs. Wood.
After speaking in the highest terms of the work done by Mrs. AVoo'd while district corresponding secretary, Mrs. Lopdell handed her a bouquet of roses. On behalf of the members of the AVellington district Mrs. AVebb presented Mrs. AVood with a handbag. Mrs. AVood thanked everyone for their kin'dness and their gifts. Supper was served by members of the Karori branch, of which Mrs. AVood has been president.
Swimming Pool Opened. About 70 guests were entertained by Mr. and Mrs. H. Stringer, Kenya Street, Ngaio, on Sunday, when the swimming pool which has been constructed in the grounds of their residence was formally opened, fl’he ceremony was performed by Mr. T. AV. Leslie, the prominent Wellington sportsman, who created hilarity by pushing Mr. Stringer into big own swimming pool and also started a race. The guests bathed and played tennis on the adjoining court and were entertained at afternoon tea and soft drinks. During the afternoon players from other tennis courts in the suburb paid short visits to see the pool and congratulate its owners.
