| Athletics At Petone | CRICKET AND TENNIS The principal outdoor sports attraction to-day at Wellington will be the meeting to be conducted by the I’etone. Amateur Athletic Club on Petone Oval. The main event on the programme will be the five-mile cycle race for the Laykold Cup. An interesting programme of athletic events will also be put through. Added interest will be lent to the meeting by the presence of Alfred Fitch, the American athletic coach recently engaged by the Wellington centre of the N.Z. A.A.A., who will arrive at Wellington by train from Auckland this morning. The first event is timed to start at 2 p.m. Cricket. The Wellington Cricket Association, the Wellington Mercantile Cricket League, and the Hutt Valley Cricket Association, will continue their grade championship competitions this afternoon. Wellington Association. The third series of matches in the Wellington Cricket Association's senior competition will be finalised. There should be an exciting finish between Midland and Wellington at the Basiu Reserve, as on the opening day both teams collapsed, Midland falling for 53, and Wellington for 60. 'With six wickets down for 103 runs, Midland will continue their second innings this afternoon', and there should bo an exciting battle for the eight-point win which seems certain to eventuatm Kilbirnie, with 246 runs on for the loss of two wickets, will strive for apt outright win over Karori, who could only total 144 on the opening day. This •match is being played on the Kilbirine recreation ground. There should be an exciting finish between Wellington College Old Boys and University’ at the Basin Reserve. University. who have lost eight wickets for 143, require 69 runs to head Old Boys’ total of 211.
