WELLINGTON FOURTH TOWN
Radio Licence Density Blenheim is the most radio-minded town in New Zealand, Wellington the fourth, and Auckland the fourteenth, according to figures quoted by' the Lea'der of .the Legislative Council, Hon. Mark Fagan, in moving the second reading of the Broadcasting Amendment Bill in the Council yesterday. , The jwreentage of licences to the population in the towns of the Dominion, Mr. Fagan said, was r Blenheim. 23.70 per cent.; Masterton, 23.64; Ashburton, 22.71; Wellington, 20.82; Hamilton, 20.71; Oamaru, 20.5-1; Wanganui, 19.79; New Plymouth, 19.19; Palmerston North, 18.77; Christchurch, 18.49; Dunedin, 18.31; Hastings, 17.93; Napier, 17.83; Auckland, 17.55; Timaru, 17.42; Bluff, 17.37; Greymouth, 16.73; Gisborne, 16.37; Nelson, 16.30; Invercargill, 15.73; Westport, 15.32; Whangarei, 15.29: Rotorua, 14.51. “Of the countries where licences are issued, New Zealand is fourth in the world from the point of view of the percentage of licences to the population,” Mr. Fagan said. The ortler was: Denmark, 17.598 per cent.: Great Britain, 17.153; Sweden, 15.113; New Zealand, 14.537.
