ANTI-COMINTERN PACT
Aimed At Britain And France
ATTITUDE OF SOVIET By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, November 10. The Moscow correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” states that the official Soviet attitude to Italy’s adherence to the anti-Comintern Pact is that it is aimed at Britain and France rather than against Russia. It is pointed out that owing to the vast distances separating Italy and Russia there is no question of active Italian intervention in a possible war between Russia and Japan or Germany. The Soviet has protested against an “unfriendly act,” but this is not a sign of intention to make reprisals against Italy. POLISH SITUATION Cause For Great Anxiety London, November 11. Mr. Vernon Bartlett, writing to the “News Chronicle,” says that although Colonel Beck has assured the British Ambassador at Warsaw that Poland is not joining the anti-Comintern Pact, the situation in Poland is causing great anxiety, especially in Paris. There are indications that a serious attempt may be made within a few days to establish a fully-fledged Fascist regime with General Rydz-Smigly as dictator. A coup would lead to the overthrow of President Moscicki, who is hostile to totalitarian tendencies, and almost inevitably to a civil war similar to that in Spain. NO ITALIAN REPLY TO RUSSIAN PROTEST London, November 10. The Rome correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” states that Signor Mussolini has definitely decided not to reply to the Russian protest against Italy’s signature of the anti-Commu-nist pact. The matter rests there unless the Soviet takes further action. PERSUADING YUGOSLAVIA Belgrade, November 10. The new Japanese Minister in Belgrade stated that his first mission will be to persuade Yugoslavia to join the Anti-Comintern Pact.
