HILLSIDES CLEARED OF GORSE
Farmers and owners of land in the Hutt Valley are taking advantage of the present dry spell to buru off gorse, broom and other noxious weeds on their holdings, and during the past few days the hills on both shies of the valley have been covered with the smoke from these fires. Yesterday a large area of hillside on the eastern side of the Taita Gorge, which was previously covered with gorse and brpom, was cleared, and a few days ago a fire on the opposite side of the valley, behind the area of bush in the Haywards reserve, cleared those hillsides of gorse.
