Officers Elected At Kelburn Branch Mrs. Gavin Wilson was the speaker at the annual meeting of the Kelburn branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society, and, by special request, gave a deeply interesting and informative address on the work of the Canton Village Mission. She read graphic extracts from recent letters of some of the missionaries, giving details of the remarkable fortitude of the Chinese Christians during the recent bombing attacks. Those present greatly appreciated the address and very heartily thanked her for her intimate knowledge so ably expressed. Mrs. Wilson’s daughter is leaving on November 25 to do missionary work for Canton. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mrs. Gavin Wilson ; vice-presidents. Mesdames Murray. Edgar and Shirer: secretary, Mrs. Singleton; collectors, Mrs. Gavin Wilson, Mrs.. Edgar, Mrs. Redgrave, Mrs. Holdsworth, Miss Buckeridge, Miss Davidson, Miss Williams, Miss Holmes, Miss Troup, Mrs. George Thompson. Mrs. Lea, Mrs. Trevethick, Mrs. Walter Thomson, Mrs. Gorringe. Mrs. Irwin, a Bible Society member from. Wanganui, received a hearty welcome and gave some interesting details of the work there and in Nelson. All were entertained at afternoon tea by the president. Mrs. Porter congratulated officers and collectors on their fine effort for the year and on behalf of headquarters thanked all for their noble and selfsacrificing work for the society.
