GOLF COMPETITION
General Motors Challenge Shield Match Representatives of the various firms connected with motoring in the Wellington area met at the Heretaunga golf links yesterday to contest the General Motors’ Challenge Shield, which is competed for annually. The Atlantic Union team was the winner with a score of 1243. The Vacuum Oil Company team was second with a score of 1276, and the General Motors team third, with a score of 1277. The winning team was Messrs. E. G. Martin, B. E. Mills, W. Ryan, and P. D. Daniels. At the conclusion of the matches, the players attended a dinner at the club house,’where Mr. W. E. Hill, of General Motors, presented the following trophies: G.M. Challenge Shield, Atlantic Union team; winners of the shield for the present month, Vacuum Oil Company team ; cup presented by the Atlantic Union Oil Company for the best net score for the day, J. K. Webbling, 65 net; pewter presented by the Texas Oil Company for the best net score on the first nine holes, C. D. Gordon, 32; pewter presented by the Texas Oil Company for the best net score on the second nine holes, E. Daniels, 29 net; trophies presented by the Vacuum Oil Company for the fourball best-bail bogey match, W. E. Hill and J. K. Webbling, 9 up; pewter presented by the Ford Motor Company for the lowest number of putts, W. Ryan, 28. In addition, General Motors and the Shell Oil Company donated balls for seven other competitions. The winning team was presented with pewters donated by the combined tyre egmpanies.
