The Flower Garden
Grrenfly u now'mSng its appearance on rose and other bushes. Spray with nicotine sulphate diluted in soapy water. Dahlia tubers can now be planted. Plant out lupins, nemesia, verbena, delphiniums, hollyhocks, phlox and polyanthus. Flowering shrubs and ornamental trees should be planted at the earliest opportunity. Plant out all hardy annuals and continue planting at intervals to ensure a succession of flowers. The soil should now be prepared for planting out chrysanthemums. Plant gladioli at fortnightly intervals. Sow all summer annuals. The Vegetable Garden Make a sowing of sweet corn. Plant kumeras. . , Melons, cucumbers, marrows and pumpkins can now be planted. Make a sowing of dwarf beans. Plant out cape gooseberries in mild districts. Earth up seedling cabbage and cauliflower. Lettuce wnTe’sown and planted at fortnightly intervals. Plots not likely to be used for some time should now be sown down in green crops for digging in. Earth up potatoes and sow a late crop. Sow turnips, .carrots, parsnips, spinach, lettuce, onions, mustard and cress, and radishes.
