MILITARY TRAINING ON SUNDAYS
Presbyterian Assembly
Discussion OBJECTIONS VOICED Dominion Special Service." Auckland, November 11. Speakers at the Presbyterian Assembly to-night drew attention to a conscientious question that was arising, they said, through the increasing prevalence of week-end camps for military training. Many of their best young men were disturbed at the thought of spending Sunday as it was spent in military camps. The Rev. R. S. Watson, M.C., said there was something utterly incongruous in learning to use modern weapons on the Lord’s Day, and they might have to discourage their young men from volunteering if such service was involved. The Rev. D. C. Herron, M.C., another well-known war chaplain, said if the military authorities were going to do tilings that violated the conscience of the Church, then the Church should say: “We are not going to encourage our young men to go into camps.”
