SHOW WEEK AT PALMERSTON NORTH
The annual A. and P. Show at Palmerston North is an event which in growing importance has kept step with the progress of the inland city. It attracts exhibitors from all parts of the Dominion. It has splendid facilities for the display of exhibits, and for the provision of side attractions for visitors. The Manawatu and West Coast Agricultural and Pastoral Association, which is responsible for this year’s “Royal Show,” which opens to-day, is one of the oldest in the country. It was founded in 1888, and its record since then has been one of steady advancement to its present position as one of the premier associations in New Zealand. Additional interest attaches to the show carnival in the fact that the city is about to celebrate its diamond jubilee, which occurs on November 20 next. The proximity of this event should add additional lustre to show week.
Year by year the inland city of Palmerston North continues to grow in wealth and importance. The tradition of individual enterprise, courage and determination founded by its early pioneers has been maintained throughout its history as a borough, and by every evidence of expansion and prosperity which visitors to the Royal Show will see around them seems destined to influence its future as a city. To these virtues of citizenship have been correlated natural advantages which have enabled Palmerston North to maintain a wellbalanced economy. It is the centre of a large and fertile farming district, extensive enough to support prosperous secondary industries within its own area. Thus business and farming progress and prosperity have marched in step.
