ENGLISH MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
Labour Gains In London Offset In Country (Received November 3, 10.30 p.m.) London, November 3. Tlie outcome of the municipal elections is that the Labour Party again improved its position in London, where for the next three years it will control 17 out of the 28 metropolitan boroughs, but lost seats on the balance in the country. The reverses were heaviest in the north of England. Forty-nine Fascists contested seats in the country and 10 in London. All were defeated. Only one Communist was returned. Heavy rain seriously affected the polling in the municipal elections throughout the country. In London fewer than 35 per cent, of the electors voted. First results showed a considerable turnover from Labour to Conservative and Independents, especially in the provinces, but the balance of parties on councils was not greatly changed. The results in 22 London boroughs were: Labour, 47 gains, three lossesj Municipal Reformers, two gains, 45 losses; Independents, no gains, two losses ; Communists, one gain, no losses. The state of parties is: Labour 647, Municipal Reformers 417, Communists one.
