BIBLE SOCIETY
Election of Officers At
Manakau
The annual meeting of the Manakau branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society was held in the Manakau Town Hall on a recent afternoon. There was a large attendance, including Miss Kenworthy’s Sunday school scholars, both pakeha and Maori. The Rev. Watson presided, and after opening the meeting with prayer introduced Miss Fawcett, organising secretary for the Wellington district, it being her first visit. Miss Fawcett, who was presented with a beautiful posy of spring flowers by Margaret Evans, on behalf of the members, gave a most inspiring address on the translations of the Bible into other languages, saying how eagerly it was looked for and read by those in foreign lands. It was the means of bringing many to Christ and a new life. The children were also given a short address to which they listened with great interest. The children gave their offerings, amounting to 5/9, to Miss Fawcett for the Bible Society.
The following officers were elected: President, Mrs. Tatum; vice-presidents, Mrs. John Staples and Mrs. Martin; secretary, Miss Drake; collectors, Misses Houghton, Cotter, Una Staples, and L. Drake. All were entertained to afternoon tea which brought a very happy afternoon to a close.
