Johanson, commander of the Matson liner Alonterey, when he arrived at Auckland on Monday, he could see no reason for the criticism. He had found by experience that passengers preferred being a few minutes late to being made uncomfortable by extra speed in choppy seas. In any case, however, it had been shown in the past that the Alatson ships were exceptionally punctual.
