SHORTAGE OF WATER

Wanganui Supplies Low Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, October 111. “The position ho far as the water supply is concerned has become rather acuta during the past few days, because of continued dry weather, and the reservoir has reached a dangerously low level,’’ said the engineer, Mr. 1.. F. Row, at the monthly meeting to-night of the* Wanganui City Council. I* Mr. Row pointed out that a number of swimming baths being filled had caused an abnormally heavy demand on supplies. Approximately 2,000,000 gallons of water was used in the city yesterday, and unless rain relieved the position soon . hosing restrictions might be necessary almost immediajely. The draw on the reservoir yesterday was the heaviest for at least five years. The mayor, Mr. W. J. Rogers, the chairman of the works committee, Mr. J. D. Crowley, and the engineer, were empowered to impose hosing restrictions ! when necessary.
