“An improved passenger service will be made available between AVellihgton and Napier coincident with the taking over of the unopened portion of the railway line to AVairoa by the Railways Department,” said the Alinister of Railways, Hon. D. G. Sullivan, in reply to an urgent question asked by Mr. D. L. Cullen (Government, Hawke’s Bay) in the House of Representatives yesterday. Air. Culleu had asked the Minister whether he was now able to state when an improved passenger service, per medium of the rail-car, would be made available between Wellington and Napier. Associated with Air. Cullen iu asking the question were the Speaker, Horn AV. E. Barnard (Government, Napier), Sir Alfred Ransom (Opposition, Pahiatua) and Air. H. AL Christie (Government, AVaipawa). “Twelve months ago,” said Air. Culleu, “a like question was asked of the Minister, who then stated in reply that the rail-car service would not be ready for last summer, but that construction of such cars would be proceeded with as expeditiously as possible, and that the claims of Hawke’s Bay -would not be overlooked when cars were available.”
Air. Sullivan said that the completion of the standard type of rail-car now under construction had been held up by the difficulty hr obtaiuiug the necessary material and equipment from abroad.
