Book to Read A Writer’s Remedy For Peace Of Mind

“Highroads To Health and Happiness,” by Wilfred Northfield (London: Williams and Northgate).

T-TAPPINESS based on self-control is the doctrine of Wilfrid Northfield in his latest book, “Highroads to Health and Happiness.” This is an intensely practical study of the problems of the present day, diagnosing personal maladjustment and, a much rarer feat, offering the remedy. It is an easily-understood book based on a psychology rooted in commonsense. It suggests physical exercise, relaxation and an intelligent sense of values rather than introspection as a cure for “nerves,” and with practical wisdom it formulates methods of overcoming sucb potent and frequentlyencountered evils as anger, fatigue, bad habits and self-consciousness.

The influence and importance of sex is a factor that has not been overlooked, but this is not the basis of the book, which seeks rather to alleviate the irritating things of everyday. The perplexing problems that so many people encounter both in their work and their.leisure arc dealt with hero with simplicity and clearness. “Life has nothing better to offer than peace of mind,” says -Mr. Northfield, and this is precisely what he is offering to those who find themselves unable to cope successfully with the noise and speed of contemporary life. Few people will read his book without profit, and for those w'ho have the strength of mind to follow his advice it will indeed prove a highroad to health and happiness.
