BIGGER DEMAND FOR N.Z. PRODUCE
Britain Prosperous
MR. E. L. RIDDIFORD’S TRIP ABROAD
Dominion Special Service.
Auckland, October 1.
The opinion that there would be a bigger demand for New Zealand wool and meat in Britain for the coming season was expressed by Mr. E. L. Riddiford, Wellington, one of the Dominion’s leading pastoralists, on his return to Auckland to-day in the Monterey after an absence of seven months abroad. He considered that the British people would do everything they could for New Zealand. New Zealand’s primary products, he said, ranked very high at Home, and there was the highest praise for New Zealand butter and lamb. Generally speaking the Dominion’s produce would be looked for and there would be a good demand. Referring again to wool, Mr. Riddiford considered that the price would even be a little higher than last year, and he believed the price of meat would also keep up.
As president of the Wellington Racing Club, Mr. Riddiford received _ a warm welcome from racing authorities in England, and was cordially entertained. He considered that Mid-day Sun, the winner of the Derby, was the best horse in England. Mr. Riddiford said no one who visited England for the Coronation could help feeling proud of the way in which Great Britain was regarded. Underneath the excitement that attended the coronation celebrations was an undercurrent of confidence that was unmis-’ takable. The King and Queen seemed certain to rise to heights of personal popularity to be everything they could be to Great Britain and the Empire, and the people of Great Britain just as obviously appreciated Their Majesties’ feelings. Financially Great Britain was on a high tide of prosperity. He had never before seen the country looking so solid and prosperous, and there could be no doubt that. New Zealand was going to reap a considerable benefit this year from England’s prosperity. Of the coronation celebrations Mr. Riddiford said his greatest impression had been that only England could have produced such an event and such a spectacle. This - also seemed to be the opinion of people of other countries who had been in Loudon during the celebrations.
