IF SHAKESPEARE WERE ALIVE
What He Would Be Paid
Shakespeare, if he were living, would have a steady income of £2,000,000 a year, says the “Sunday Chronicle.” That would have been his earnings from royalties alone in 1936, according to calculations made by a literary agent. If Shakespeare had been alive Hollywood would have had to pay him about £40,000 for film rights. New York performances of Shakespeare’s plays would have brought the author £70,000. But our national bard could have made even more than £2.000,000 a year, concludes the literary agent, if he could have gone to Hollywood as a “rewrite” man for screen stories!
Frank, a small London boy, paid his first visit to church with his mother one Sunday. When the collection was being taken, he noticed ids mother hastily searching her purse. "What’s the matter, mum,” he asked. “Haven’t you got a penny?” “No,” she said, ‘I can't seem to find any change.”
“Here, take mine,” said Frank. "I’ll hide under the seat.”
