THREE SMALL FIRES

Outbreak In Show Building

The Wellington Fire Brigade was called to three small fires yesterday, including the one at 1.30 a.m. in Belcher’s Building, particulars of which were published yesterday. At 1.40 p.m. there was a small outbreak in the Thistle Inn, Thorndon, caused by a window curtain coming in contact with a naked flame. Slight damage was done to the curtains and to the wallpaper in a first-floor passage. A call to the Winter Show Building was received at 6.44 p.m. There a match thrown down had set fire to some rubbish not far from the main entrance. Slight damage was done to the wooden floor by the fire and by the brigadesmen’s chopping away of the boards to reach the flames.

An inspection yesjterday of the tailor's workroom where the Are in Belcher’s Building occurred, showed that it had been caused by a tailor’s electric pressing iron being left on.
