MOERA BRANCH OF MOTHERS’ LEAGUE
Toy-making Demonstration The monthly meeting of the Moera branch of the League of Mothers was held recently, Mrs. Ashfort presiding over a good attendance of members and friends. Members were invited to the annual provincial meeting to be held on September 24. The choir sang two songs, Mrs. Wedekind conducting. Mesdames Tanner and Dunkly pleased with a piano duet. Mrs. Morris gave an interesting demonstration of the making of children’s toys. This proved helpful with Christmas near. Mrs. Morris had several patterns of which members availed themselves. There will be a competition at a later date which Mrs. Morris has consented to judge. Those who gave items and Mrs. Morris were presented with posies. Afternoon tea brought a cheery afternoon to a close. ROAD IMPROVEMENTS Koro Koro Progressive League’s Suggestions Suggestions from the Koro Koro Progressive League for the employment of men under the new subsidy scheme were recently considered by the works committee of the Petone Borough Council. Referring to the suggestion that work could be done at the bad corners on the Koro Koro Road, the engineer reported that all the bad corners on the road were on private property. In the opinion of the engineer, the carrying out of channelling work on the face of the hill, as suggested by the league, would tend to cause scouring, through the channelling becoming blocked, with a consequent increase of expenditure upon the road.
It was decided to take no action in these two matters.
