Petone Council Meeting
In future two officers will be in attendance at the money order branch of the Petone Post Office, the Post and Telegraph Department advised the Petone Borough Council, which met last night. The mayor, Mr. A. Scholefield, presided over the following members: Crs. G. London, J. C. Burns, J. Huggan, J. Cumming, W. 11. Edwards, and A. Macfarlane. The council decided to make a grant of £5 to help the Discharged Prisoners’ Aid Society in its work. The tar-sealing of Heretaunga Street, from Tennyson Street to the soapworks, was considered. The cost was estimated at £165, and the council adopted the recommendation of the works committee that the work should • not be done at present. The Petone and Lower Hutt Gas Lighting Board wrote stating that it was prepared to dedicate fourteen feet of land in Bouverio Street for road-widening purposes in exchange for the gasworks lane, which the board holds on lease, the council to pay any survey fees. The proposition was referred to the works committee. COMING OF AGE OF MISS BEATTY PACK Successful Studio Dance Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Pack entertained a large number of friends at an evening at Miss Eva Draper’s studio, Lower Hutt, recently, to celebrate the coming-of-age of their daughter, Beatty. The guests were received by the host and hostess, assisted by the guest of honour. Mrs, Pack wore a frock of navy georgette and lacc, and Miss Pack was in blue and silver. Dancing was the main feature of the entertainment. Many novelties were introduced, iuterspersed with musical items, by Misses Jean and Ella Macrae (vocal duet), and Mr. . Colin Pickett, (piano-necordion). Mr. E. C. Batten was the master of ceremonies.
The supper tables presented a gay sight, the colour scheme being pink and blue. The usual toasts were honoured during the serving of supper. Another feature was the presentation of I lie key to the guest of honour by her father. The guests included Mcsdaines Batten. De Menech, Hogg. Sando, Boocock, Mitchell. McPhee. COUNCIL CO-OPERATION Soldiers’ Memorial Hall At Upper Hutt Co-operation with the Upper Hutt branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association in any plans it had for the erection of n hall as a memorial to soldiers of the district was decided on by the Upper Hutt Borough Council at a special meeting last n igh I. The mayor, Mr. A. J. McCurdy, said it was the council’s intention to give the movement for a hall recognition and support as soon ns any definite information was forthcoming from the branch.
