WELLINGTON GIRLS’ COLLEGE

Need For New Building

PROPOSAL TO ACQUIRE

LAND

The urgent need for rebuilding the Wellington Girls’ College was stressed by Mr. C. H. Chapman (Government, Wellington North) in a question addressed to the Minister of Education, Hon. P. Fraser, in the House of Re? presentatives yesterday. Mr. Chapman said that ,the question of providing an up-to-date building for the college had been under consideration for a very long time, and all concerned—parents, teachers, and scholars—were anxious that a start should be made with the work at the earliest possible moment. The Minister, in replying, said he was convinced that there was an urgent need for a new and more suitable •school building, constructed and equipped in accordance with modern educational requirements. However, the existing site was too restricted for essential educational requirements, and a proposal to secure additional land ■was under consideration.

“When this aspect of the problem is settled, the question of the rebuilding of the school will forthwith be submitted to Cabinet,” added Mr. Fraser.
