SOCCER CODE

Changes in Wellington Team MATCH AT AUCKLAND Four changes have been made in the Wellington representative Soccer team to play Auckland tor the Frank Campbell Hose Bowl at Blandford Park, Auckland, next Saturday. A. Leslie, centre-forward, W. Woods, inside left. A. Longbottom, centre half, and N. Gates, right half, are not available to travel. The team, which will leave to-morrow night by the Limited, will now be as followsGoal: P. Turkington (Marist). Full-backs: S. Haines (I’etone), and K. Yeoman (Seatoun). Halves: R. Boyes (Institute Old Boys), T. Graham (Petone), C. Yeoman (Seatoun). Forwards: T. Janes (Waterside). L. Heath (Swifts), C. Webster (Hospital), M. Quirke (Marist), and D. Craig (Petone). Twelfth man: H. Smith (Petone). The reconstituted team should give a good account of itself on Saturday. Boyes and Graham are both reliable halves who have been playing consistently good football this season. Webster, the new centre forward, should combine well with the other four, and Quirke has earned his inclusion for his speed and clever footwork. Since the withdrawal of Hatchard, Quirke has been the most prolific scorer for Marist this season, and he is one of the fittest players in training. Smith, twelfth man, is a steady player who could fill most positions on the field. All the substituted players have been members of the Wellington Football Association’s training “school” along with those originally chosen, and the team should not be greatly weakened.
