VALUE OF DAIRY INDUSTRY

An indication of what the dairy industry means to Carterton is shown by the fact that last season the eight dairy factories in the district paid out for butterfat £128,880. The output of butter in tons for the various factories was: Dalefield, 10144; Parkvale, 3124; Belvedere, 280; Waihakeke, 246; Carrington, 183|; Kokotau, 150; Ahiaruhe, 151; Taratahi, 1274. The payouts varied from 1/2 to 1/3-J. Last season also 18,119 bobby calves were disposed of, and the sum paid out was £7OOO. It is expected this season that the amount will be increased to £lO,OOO. These are some of the reasons for Carterton’s solidity.
