First ' Birthday Party
Celebrated
The Tiraumea branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union recently gave an evening in the Tiraumea Hall to celebrate their first birthday. There was a large gathering, including visitors from Rotorua, Wellington, Eketahuna, Pongaroa and Alfredton, and items were given by Mrs. Cuventry (Wellington), Miss Barbour (Rotorua), Mrs. Hansen, Miss E. Hansen, Miss Norma Wallis, Mr. G. Hislop (Wellington). Two one-act plays, “Op o’ My Thumb” and “At Cross Purposes,’’ were acted by members of the branch and were very much enjoyed. Supper was served by the members, and afterward the president, Mrs. R. J. Harman, called on Mrs. Wiltshire to light the candle on the three-tier birthday cake. The youngest member blew it out, and the president then cut the cake, which had been beautifully iced by a member of the division, Mrs. Wallis. Mrs. McKenzie was the winner of the aggregate prizes for gaining the highest number of points during the monthly competitions, and on behalf of the division the president presented her with a beautiful brass bowl. A, special prize, donated by the president, was won by Mrs. Harman, juur. The novelty dances were won by Mr. and Airs. Wiltshire, Miss E. Hansen and Mr. L. Curtis, Miss L. Barker and Mr. L. Wallis.
The music was supplied by Mrs. G. Houlbrooke, Mrs. L. Lowering, Mr. G. Curtis, Mr. G. Hislop and Mr, V. Graham.
The party came to a close with a streamer dance and the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
