Open Champion Beaten in
Match Play

" Sydney, September 13.
A feature of the first rounds in the Australian amateur and professional golf championships over 36 holes of match play to-day was the defeat of the open champion G. Naismith, 2 and 1, by the Moore Park professional, C. Booth. The latter was three up at the end of 18 holes. Ferrier beat Hattersley, 2 and 1, after a hard fight. Von Nida beat Spence, 9 and 8. The Victorian, Williams, beat Higgins, 3 and 2, and Richardson beat Boorer, 5 and 4. Other winners included W. Bolger, Ryan, Davies, Headlam, Rae and Walker.
